Passion Project
Why I Love Dungeons & Dragons: Blog post
Goal: Stuff you can write about really quickly or are passionate about. This is to show your voice and style as you write. Choose a topic and write a 400-500 Word blog post on it. Something you’re really passionate about that you know a whole lot about.
Ever since I was a kid I have enjoyed movies across various genres. I grew up watching classics like Charlie Chaplin’s black and white comedy Modern Times and sci-fi action adventure films like Star Wars. Due to the various emotions and actions in these films I was inspired to create my own fictional worlds and characters. One of the ways I did this was by acting out my storytelling through action figure adventures. I’d often craft various scenarios with an array of heroes I had in my collection across different franchises. They would often deal with whatever the major calamity of the week happened to be. Often with the aid of the various weapons, giant robots and other creations at their disposal. These imaginative scenario creation sessions would eventually lead me to pursuing a screenwriting career track in college.
Years later when I came across this tabletop Role-Playing-Game (RPG) Dungeons & Dragons, I felt right at home due to my creative upbringing. While I enjoyed the battle element of this game, the character creation process gives me the most satisfaction. To create a character in D&D, players select various features for their character starting with their race/species. This is followed by players choosing their profession in the game better known as their class. They choose from 14 available classes such as the Cleric, Fighter and Wizard; each with various abilities and advantages over the others to accomplish different tasks. Next, players roll a 20 sided-die for the statistics in different categories such as strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom and charisma. The results of these statistics determine how likely a player’s character will be able to succeed in situations they might find themselves in.
Playing this game is a lot like my time with action figures, but now with more customization for my characters. My favorite customization aspect in this game is creating the backstory for my characters. This is very much like writing my own movie prologue. First I take the historical material provided in the player’s handbook. Then put my personal comedic spin on my characters listed in the book. When those characters successfully develop chemistry with other players, this ends up being the most satisfying parts of creation. Not only am I advancing the narrative of my character’s storyline and learning more about them, but I’m also helping advance the overall narrative with others. For instance I could construct a Looney Toons-like character that finds themselves amongst a party of characters from The Matrix. As a party we could be dealing with a haunted house scenario, where we are tasked with exorcizing the evil spirit that lives there. Through our skills and motivations we not only have the potential to defeat the obstacle, but also grow closer together despite our different styles and tones. Overall D&D is a fun group storytelling roleplaying game where individuals can have a bizarre array of adventures and stories with others.

Sales Page Hanes Sweatpants
Goal: Write a sales page for an everyday object.
Hey there reader, how are you holding up these days?
Yeah, I’m trying to make the best of it too.
Looking out the window and seeing a majority of the population social distancing, it’s pretty obvious that 2020 majorly sucks for all of society.
The planet has gone through quite a number of events in five months.
There was that close call with WWIII in January.
The Australian Wildfires in February.
The COVID-19 Virus causing the population to go into quarantine mode in March.
Then in April there was talk of the possibility of Murder Hornets making their way through the country. As well as the confirmed UFO footage from the Pentagon, and jokes that practically every movie alien invader might pay us a visit by June.
What’s next?
Godzilla vs King Kong by the 4th of July?
It feels like humanity can’t quite catch a break, doesn’t it?
